Compulsory voting

Compulsory voting

By

James Bredin

Politicians who want to represent certain minorities,
Could swing the government away from the majority,
And they do it blatantly because this is how things are arranged,
So when half the people refuse to vote; this should not seem strange.

Mandatory votes might reflect the will of the majority,
Not activist special-interest groups who want more authority,
If Australia and Belgium can do this; could Canada too?
Is democracy just an illusion never up for review.

Because most of the elitist media are in league with them,
A new idea might change things so they instantly condemn,
In their managed world this has nothing to do with democracy,
More inclined towards their special interests and hypocrisy.

Apathy and hopelessness towards this controlled welfare
And please don’t get in the way of their closed-shop affair,
They like the system as it now stands and no changes please,
Who are you, upstart, to question them so get down on your knees?

Those who are entitled should be required by law to vote,
Their name and social insurance number used to vote and promote,
Those who refuse to vote should be given a special tax,
Make them realize their duty so as not to be so slack.
